It's an exciting time to be joining Southwark Council as we prepare to open our first children’s home. We believe that where appropriate our children should grow up in the borough they are connected to and near to important people in their lives such as their family and friends. This belief has been a key driver for developing our own children’s residential service in the borough.

About the Role:

As a Children’s Residential Practitioner, you will be an integral part of our team. We need both your ambition and energy to translate our vision into reality for our children. You will be at the heart of ensuring that our children feel loved, happy, healthy, safe and supported to achieve their aspirations.

To support your introduction into the organisation, service and role we have a comprehensive welcome, induction, training, supervision and support offer. It aims to support you in having a clear understanding of our expectations of you as well as how we will support you as a valued member of the team. We have a strong drive for excellence here and we look forward to supporting you, supporting us to achieve it.

Requirements:

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people whilst enabling them to achieve their full potential.
  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent, or commitment to undertaking the relevant course post-probation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation and guidance in relation to safeguarding children and children's homes.
  • Experience of working directly with children in a residential setting (e.g. children's home).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, team members and multi-agency colleagues.
