The role:

This role forms part of the Healthy Adults team within the Public Health division at Southwark Council. You will take a strategic lead on the design, planning and delivery of the public mental health programme in Southwark, working to the Head of Programmes: Healthy Adults. Taking care of residents’ mental health and wellbeing is a priority for Southwark. You will develop a deep understanding of these needs and inform various projects and programmes to promote mental health and help provide excellent levels of mental health care.

In this role, you will drive forward long-term strategic objectives, such as suicide prevention, mental health promotion and prevention activities. A strong focus on health inequalities will be expected. You will engage with a diverse range of partners, with an opportunity to elevate the voice of local communities who are most affected by poor mental health.
Integrated system level working is integral to joined up care for the local community. You will be responsible for developing and nurturing good working relationships across the council, NHS, ICS, voluntary and community sector and other relevant partners, developing a strong understanding of a complex system.

This role will involve the production of reports, papers, project plans and risk assessments. You will be required to develop communications suitable for a range of audiences across various platforms.  You will have the opportunity to gain a broad experience of public health functions.

The post holder may be required to support the division’s health protection function, including pandemic and emergency response.

About you:

You must have excellent leadership, commissioning, communication, partnership, analytical and report writing skills. You will be highly organised and comfortable working within a fast-paced and complex political, outcomes-oriented environment. A strong commitment to tackling health inequalities is expected. 

This role will be ideal for someone who has experience of multi-disciplinary working, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, with the ability to bring together multiple programmes of work.
