The role

About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.

The Role:

Southwark has declared a climate emergency and set the ambitious target to transform the council and the borough to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Work is well underway, with our climate change strategy agreed by Cabinet, and an updated climate action plan finalised in July 2022.  The council is now delivering an ambitious programme of work to reduce our own emissions from our buildings and fleet while influencing further emissions reduction across the borough.

Southwark has created a dedicated climate change team to lead this work. We are looking for an enthusiastic programme manager who can manage this transformation, delivering the practical action that changes how the council works, and which leads and inspires residents and partners to do the same so that together we can cut emissions and create a more sustainable future.

About You:

You will provide programme management and leadership across the council on the borough’s response to the climate emergency, shaping the programmes of work and liaising with partners and the community to do the same.

You will work with colleagues across the council to ensure that every part of our business is contributing to our shared ambition to be carbon neutral.

With a proven track record of successful project and programme management you will be instrumental in the development and delivery of the council’s climate change strategy.

We are an organisation who is passionate about our people and understands that richness of diversity is a requirement to provide the best possible services to our communities. We particularly welcome applications from members of the black, Asian and ethnic minority communities to increase representation in this area of our business.
