The role

We are looking for a person who has a strong interest in environmental issues and waste management, and understands the challenges faced by local authorities in driving improvements in the performance of the council in relation to the sustainability agenda.

You will assist the Waste Contract and Strategy Manager with ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and financial accountability in relation to the council’s Integrated Waste Management Solutions (IWMS) Contract by providing strategic support and advice, and through the monitoring, management and scrutiny of relevant datasets.

You will be responsible for verifying and auditing of invoices and data supplied by the contractor, relating to wastes handled and performance levels achieved. You will be responsible for collating and submitting statutory waste and fly-tipping database returns ensuring they are accurate and submitted on time.

You will be responsible for managing and updating existing spreadsheets and databases that are used to monitor and manage waste movements and financial expenditure. You will assist with developing new systems to deliver efficiencies and continuous improvement in the services and to meet the requirements of new and developing services.

You will be responsible for audit and validation of high value invoices and annual reconciliation statements from the waste contractor and ensure payments are made on time for the services provided.

The post holder will manage the day-to-day issues arising under the waste contract and will ensure that specifications and targets within the Contract are met, and that any problems are fairly resolved.

You will line manage staff within the Waste Client Team that is responsible for handling complaints, enquiries and Freedom of Information requests relating to waste collection, treatment, recycling, composting and disposal elements of the contract.

You will be responsible for managing internal recharges for services provided to other council business units and also for managing accounts and the invoicing process for external customers.
