The Role
We are seeking an experienced Arboriculturalist to manage and lead a busy client side tree and ecology section at Southwark Council. Located in the heart of London Southwark is a very diverse borough with direct responsibility for over 60,000 trees across parks, highways and housing.
The successful applicant will lead and co-ordinate the work of the Tree Services Team on a strategic and operational level covering all aspects of arboriculture including proactive and reactive surveys of council stock, dealing with tree root claims, tree planting, providing consultancy advice to parks colleagues and project managers for parks improvement projects and liaising with other council departments and stake holders on tree related matters.
You will be responsible for managing and developing a range of contracts and Service Level Agreements, this will include working proactively towards enhancing the service.
As the manager you will be responsible for the day to day running of the unit covering budget management, staff management, complaints and enquiries, service document reviews including the Tree Management Strategy and provide briefings to senior managers and Councillors.
In addition you will be responsible for the management and monitoring of work outputs using Confirm. You will collaborate with both internal and external providers to deliver the tree work operation.
About you:
You will have a relevant degree in arboriculture and or equivalent and be able to demonstrate your experience, knowledge and understanding of British Standards, HSE guidance relating to arboriculture and risk management documents.
You will be able to demonstrate your ability to lead a team and offer guidance where problems arise in order to deliver the service and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
You will be experienced in dealing with the public, providing consultancy advice on projects where tree protection is paramount whilst working to deliver solutions to issues arising in order that the projects can be delivered.
You will have experience in the production of contract documentation in line with OJEU processes and will be able to demonstrate a proven track record of contract management and monitoring.
You will be able to demonstrate a sound and comprehensive CPD record of seminars and working groups relevant to arboriculture.
