The Role:

The Design, Conservation and Transport Policy Team at Southwark Council are looking for a transport planning specialist who is passionate about tackling the climate emergency and transport mobility within Southwark. The key workstreams of this new role includes:

Preparing new transport planning policies and planning guidance through the review of the Local Plan, Old Kent Road Area Action Plan and Supplementary Planning Documents. We will be working at the cutting edge of how local planning policy can respond to ambitious carbon reduction targets. 

- Providing specialist and technical input and advice for the Planning Division throughout the planning process, including reviewing transport statements, and other carbon related documents submitted with planning applications to identify and negotiate ways of ensuring the delivery of accessible areas.
- Inputting into Transport Policy as part of our pre-application planning advice service, as part of a review of planning services.
- Establishing collaborative ways to deliver the council’s Movement Plan with the Highways team.
- Working with colleagues from other councils on progressing transport policy across London.

About You:

As a transport planning specialist, you will be part of a dedicated team of planners, graduates and apprentices who are very enthusiastic about tackling the climate emergency by updating planning policy and guidance to ensure planning and development pushes the boundaries of transport mitigation and accessibility and movement. You will need to report to senior officers and members, and you will need to liaise with the GLA and Central Government responding to new initiatives and policy, and finding ways to implement them effectively at Southwark. 

The Design, Conservation and Transport Policy Team is part of the Policy, Building Control and the Historic Environment team. The team provides specialist advice on planning applications, prepares policy and strategy to guide development and monitors change and improvements. This team is part of the Planning and Growth Division which leads on sustainable change and growth in Southwark.
