We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible ToD to join our friendly, professional Southwark Hearing Support Service Team. This post will be directed to provide direct teaching and support at St John’s & St Clements Primary School Resource Base for hearing impaired children. The resource will be at the full capacity of 15 children in Sept 2018 and you will join a team of 2Teachers of the Deaf.
The resource base has been offering direct teaching and support to HI children for over 17 years working primarily with an aural/oral approach, with sign support for some children. We are highly successful and skilled at what we do and now have a rare opportunity to appoint a qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join our service due to expansion of the service.
Reporting to the Manager of Hearing Support Service and the Head teacher, you will provide individual and group teaching/ support to pupils at the resource base in all aspects of the curriculum. This will involve devising and implementing strategies to help pupils meet targets, advising parents and carers and delivering training packages to school based staff.
You will also provide supervision for Specialist Hearing Support Assistants and help develop extracurricular activities.
You will need to be a qualified ToD with a BSL stage 1 [or willingness to undertake training]. Experience of teaching and supporting pupils with a hearing impairment, assessing and planning individual programmes and using and maintaining amplification equipment will be vital. You will also need knowledge of language acquisition, an interest in developing services for pre-school hearing impaired children, excellent communication skills and a reasonable level of IT literacy.

Leadership 1-7 (£46,814- £53,194) depending on experience, Teachers Pay and Conditions
