Southwark has declared a climate emergency and work is well underway to transform the council and the borough so that we work towards our ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Do you want to be part of the team making this vision a reality? If so, we are looking for an experienced individual who can transform their passion for tackling climate change into practical action that changes how the council works, and which leads and inspires residents and partners to do the same.

The Sustainability & Energy Manager role is responsible for contract managing the council’s energy contracts and ensuring we increasingly decarbonise across our estate. You will work with colleagues across the council on the delivery of energy projects as defined by the council’s Climate Action Plan, securing funding, pushing innovation and ensuring the council’s energy policy is in line with best practice. The role is part of a small team responsible for delivering one of the council’s top priorities.

About you:

You will have experience of contract management ideally within the areas of energy or sustainability, and will frequently deal with external contractors and partnership organisations. You will be delivery focused, and have experience of managing complex projects and delivering on time and to budget. You will be a strong communicator, able to provide updates for councillors and senior staff and adept at explaining complex issues to a non-technical audience.

You will be confident managing complex data and take ownership of the council’s emission’s reporting ensuring that best practice is followed across scope 1, 2 and 3 data analysis. As an experienced manager you will also lead a small team and contribute to the delivery of projects within the council’s Climate Action Plan.
