The role

The Role

During Covid-19, Southwark Council has created and reshaped services, supported local businesses and worked with many partners in a spirit of collaboration, underpinned by our values to support those in the greatest need. As the borough moves to recovery, it is important that this is done at pace, with sensitivity and care, to deliver the change needed to secure long term renewal.

To support change and renewal, we are looking for a Strategy and Partnerships Manager to provide leadership and direction for the delivery of the Council’s change and transformation strategy. The work will be fast paced, diverse and dynamic with the role extending across all of our council services and those of our partners.  The possibilities are endless – starting with you.

With Resilience, Political awareness and Sensitivity you will:

  • Be the key contact for the Council, government departments, external partners and agencies to build and maintain networks of strategic influence.
  • Command authority and be comfortable leading change and be responsible for the management of a small team of staff and matrix management of the programme of project delivery.
  • Establish effective relationships with key stakeholders across the Council and the wider community to create a positive impact on the Council’s approach to supporting change and renewal.
  • Use your strategic skills to see the possibilities on the horizon and your analytical skills to take a forensic approach to improve our achievements.
  • Develop an effective council-wide framework that includes local change, transformation and partnership objectives.

About You

You will have a strong understanding of strategic planning; experience of managing significant programmes of policy and strategy development; and a track record of developing, reviewing, implementing and evaluating policies which have a significant impact on organisational performance. Personal commitment, drive and curiosity are also key to being successful in this role.

We are excited to invest in the right candidate with:

  • A strong customer focus.
  • Exceptional analytical, judgement and decision making skills.
  • An understanding of the key political, social and economic issues that affect Inner London and the role of local government, or, an in-depth understanding of the current issues affecting change and transformation strategy and delivery in an inner-city environment.
