About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do.

As in all London boroughs there is an acute lack of truly affordable housing. Our council development programme is the most ambitious in London and is one of the council’s top priorities, having committed to building 11,000 new council homes. It’s a big goal, but crucial if we’re going to tackle the housing crisis and make sure our residents have quality homes they can be proud of, now and in the future.

The role:

We have reached an important milestone in the delivery of new council homes by achieving the 2,500 new homes target by 2022. This has provided an ideal opportunity to take stock and consider both the next milestones and the mechanisms for next phase delivery. We are consolidating and re-branding the housing delivery function that existed across Regeneration and New Homes and building a new structure under Southwark Construction. The delivery and management of homes is now the sole responsibility of the housing department.

As Strategic Lead, you will provide a strategic framework for the design, development and delivery of all new housing projects, in line with council priorities from inception to completion. You will be responsible, on behalf of the council, to negotiate agreements and contracts with developers and other key stakeholders to ensure efficient delivery of Southwark Construction projects within the programme. You will develop, lead and evaluate a performance management framework for a team of delivery project management staff, working closely with other Strategic Leads within Southwark Construction to provide efficiency of delivery, planning, reporting and resourcing.

About you:

We are looking for enthusiastic, self-driven individuals, experienced in managing strategic projects and programmes in housing, development or estate re-building. Educated to degree level with experience of post graduate technical training and knowledge, you will provide management, leadership, direction and motivation to multi-disciplinary technical and professional, new build and estate re-building schemes.

In your role, we want you to feel supported, challenged and rewarded. You will benefit from our family-friendly policies including flexible working, home working, and a local government pension scheme, plus many other staff benefits. You will join a motivated, driven and supportive team that strives for excellence and values its members. You will also be part of a successful and high-achieving development team that is making a real difference to the lives of residents in the borough.
