The Role

Substance Misuse Engagement Workers

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a brand new service in Southwark Adult Social Care. The roles have been designed to support known service users, who in addition to their Care Act (2014) eligible needs, have co-existing substance misuse and/or alcohol related issues.

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Social Workers to join the engagement team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your social work skills and help to shape and develop fresh approaches in supporting this service user group. You will have the scope to develop creative and innovative interventions to ensure service users are at the centre of the support they receive using a strengths based approach.

You will co-work with colleagues across all the Adult Social Care departments and in collaboration with existing substance/alcohol misuse agencies and networks. The focus is on direct work using a trauma informed approach when engaging with service users. The work will have a harm minimisation focus.

An additional element of the role will be to provide aftercare support to service users who have been through detox and rehab services and are returning to the local community.

About You

You will be a registered Social Worker with experience of working with adults with substance misuse and/or alcohol related needs.

You will be based within a friendly, creative, collaborative and supportive department at our impressive offices in Camberwell.

The post holder may need to travel beyond Southwark to support service users placed in accommodation across London.

Throughout your time in Southwark you will be constantly learning to enhance your knowledge and skills. You will be challenged by your work, encouraged to try new approaches and supported to maximise your potential. We will invest in providing the resources you need to develop professionally, through a combination of informal on-the-job learning, regular reflective supervision and formal development via an evolving suit of training opportunities.

An enhanced DBS is required for these roles.
