Can you help Southwark Council to shape a brand new leisure service that supports all its residents to lead healthy lives?


Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. In June 2023, Leisure Services transferred to full council management. This is a unique opportunity to be part of building a new future for leisure services in Southwark.
We are on the lookout for a talented and experienced Service Membership Manager to take on this vital role across the boroughs leisure centres, we need someone who will develop and manage the growth of the boroughs membership. You will be a vital part of the team owning and delivering member retention and coaching, supporting, and developing a group of site-based Membership Managers and their Teams.

The post holder will be required to evaluate and develop the overall sales process and performance to encourage healthy activity and help reduce health inequalities in the borough.

Reporting to the Leisure Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will have a passion for delivering excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have experience in membership sales management, demonstrate excellent health and safety management, customer care, retention of existing members and driving the performance of the membership product across the centres in the borough.

The role will sit in the Environment, Neighbourhood and Growth department, which is responsible for the day-to-day management of parks and open spaces, trees, sports and leisure, cemeteries, youth and play, highways, roads, parking, refuse collection, street cleansing, culture and libraries.


About You:

• Hold a diploma or above in a business, sales management or a sales / business based qualification or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of commercial and competitive marketing, preferably in the leisure industry
• 3 years management experience in a health & fitness / leisure centre environment, with specific experience as a Head of Sales, Director of Sales, or Senior Sales Manager
• Experience/Knowledge of using CRM to manage the sales process and forecast sales. Experience of successfully managing multiple stakeholders and projects.
• Experience in Financial awareness and understanding. Previous budgetary control experience.

• Job type – Permanent (Full Time)
• Will be required to work occasional weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the service.
• Basic DBS check required.
