Southwark Council is seeking a dedicated Service Manager to lead our Older Persons and Physical Disabilities (OPPD) Support Teams. About the Service

Southwark Council’s Adult Social Care (ASC) Division is committed to empowering individuals to live independently, access the right support at the right time, and build strong community connections. Our OPPD service plays a vital role in:

  • Delivering strengths-based, personalised care in line with the Care Act 2014
  • Supporting people with complex needs, including those requiring court of protection intervention
  • Enhancing partnership working with the NHS, voluntary organisations, and local community groups to improve outcomes
  • Driving service innovation through proactive leadership and continuous improvement

About the Role

As a Service Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure that services meet and exceed quality standards. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, managing, and developing a high-performing team of social care professionals
  • Overseeing complex case management, including safeguarding, court processes, and crisis interventions
  • Implementing best practice models that enhance service delivery, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Driving forward new initiatives to improve service user experience, ensuring that support is timely, flexible, and person-centred
  • Managing budgets efficiently, ensuring value for money while maintaining high-quality service standard

  • Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, influencing service developments and promoting integrated care

About You

We are looking for an inspirational leader with a strong background in adult social care, particularly in older persons and physical disabilities services. You will bring:

  • Extensive experience in complex case management, safeguarding, and legal frameworks (Court of Protection, Coroners Court, etc.)
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, drive performance, and embed a culture of continuous improvement
  • Strategic thinking, with an understanding of the challenges facing local government and how to navigate them
  • A collaborative mindset, able to build strong relationships with key stakeholders to enhance service delivery
  • A commitment to person-centred care, ensuring that services empower individuals and promote independence
  • Innovative problem-solving skills, using creativity and data-driven approaches to improve service outcomes
