The role
Southwark Council is recruiting a 16+ Service Service Manager to lead the 16+ Service on our continuing improvement journey towards an excellent service for all Care Leavers. This is a fantastic opportunity for an amazing, passionate Social Worker Manager to work with our children and young people.
This exciting role requires a leader with ambition, creativity and proven experience leading Children’s Services. You will continue the development of a sector leading co-designed 16+ Service – working with children, young people, staff and stakeholders.
You will also be thinking about the challenges and opportunities arising from the Children and Social Work Act and changes in the care leaver demographic including late entrants, Unaccompanied Minors and returnees.
We are highly ambitious to continue to improve outcomes for our children, including increasing numbers of children and young people in education, work and training, developing our expertise and practice in safeguarding young adults and ensuring good accommodation outcomes.
We are determined that all Looked after Children and Care Leavers are provided with the very best opportunities, support and pathways to successful independence.
This role requires a visible leader with high expectations, a results-focused approach which is supported by well-developed analytical planning, excellent practice knowledge and strong organisational skills; all of which will be used to best effect in helping to instil a reflective, restorative and open culture where there is an environment of high support but also high challenge.
You will have managed operational teams within a children’s social care and have a genuine commitment to the provision of high quality services for our children and young people.
The collaborative nature of the work requires excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
A commitment to systemic ways of working, restorative approaches and freeing practitioners to spend their time with children and young adults is vital.
The 16+ Service Service Manager is responsible to the Head of Service but must also understand their accountability to our children and young people to provide an excellent service.
As a member of the management team based in Peckham, you will work with the Head of Service to provide leadership to your Teams and to continue to develop an excellent, innovative co-designed Service.
