Can you help Southwark Council to shape a brand new leisure service that supports all its residents to lead healthy lives?


Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a council, we are successful, passionate and forward thinking. In June 2023, Leisure Services transferred to full council management. This is a unique opportunity to be part of building a new future for leisure services in Southwark.


We are looking for a passionate and experienced Service Fitness Manager who will join us at an exciting time with huge investment planned and imminent gym refurbishments on the horizon.


You will develop and manage a fitness service, journey and experience for Southwark’s
Leisure and coach, support, and develop a group of site based Fitness Managers and their Teams towards delivering the best fitness product.

 

The post holder will be required to evaluate and develop the overall fitness product, including Personal Training, Group Exercise and the Customer Journey to encourage healthy activity and help reduce health inequalities in the borough.
Reporting to the Leisure Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will have a passion for delivering excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have experience in gym and group exercise program management, demonstrate excellent health and safety management, customer care, retention of existing members and
driving the performance of the Fitness product across the centres in the borough.


The role will sit in the Environment, Neighbourhood and Growth department, which is responsible for the day-to-day management of parks and open spaces, trees, sports and leisure, cemeteries, youth and play, highways, roads, parking, refuse collection, street cleansing, culture and libraries.

About You
- Hold a CIMSPA or REPs accredited Level 3 qualification
- Good knowledge of commercial and competitive marketing, preferably in the leisure industry
- Substantial management experience in a health & fitness / leisure centre environment, with specific gym and exercise class programme management.
- Experience of managing refurbishments and delivery of new initiatives.
- Experience of successfully managing multiple stakeholders and projects.
- Experience in Financial awareness and understanding. Previous budgetary control experience.

Additional Information:
-This is a Permanent, full time role
- Standard, 36 hours, you will be required to work occasional weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the service.
- Basic DBS check required.
