The role

About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do.

As in all London boroughs there is an acute lack of truly affordable housing.  Our council development programme is the most ambitious in London and is one of the council’s top priorities, having committed to building thousands of new council homes. It’s a big goal, but crucial if we’re going to tackle the housing crisis and make sure our residents have quality homes they can be proud of, now and in the future.

The role:

We have reached an important milestone in the delivery of new council homes by achieving the 2,500 new homes target by 2022. This has provided an ideal opportunity to take stock and consider both the next milestones and the mechanisms for next phase delivery. We are consolidating and re-branding the housing delivery function that existed across Regeneration and New Homes and building a new structure under Southwark Construction.  The delivery and management of homes is now the sole responsibility of the housing department.

The Senior Programme Manager will be responsible for providing strategic programme management across Southwark Construction to ensure the efficient delivery of all new homes and rebuilding projects and programmes, including a high quality technical, professional and programme management and support team to enable teams to achieve high standards and council wide targets.

The role will work with all other departments to effectively manage the council wide new homes and rebuilding programme to ensure that they have sight of, and achieve all milestone deadlines, within budget.  Reporting and presenting on all programme information to internal and external key stakeholders including Members, Cabinet, senior officers and external agencies such as the GLA will also be a key part of the role.

About you:

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced team player to work with senior management and help set up and lead the new programme management office within Southwark Construction.

You will have previous experience of programme leadership within housing, regeneration, planning or development within a public sector, or similar environment, with a thorough understanding of current, relevant legislation, issues and policy developments at local and national level.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in Programme or Project Management and have a successful track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team of technical and professional experts, delivering to deadlines and within resource constraints.

Benefits and more information:

In your role, we want you to feel supported, challenged and rewarded. You will benefit from our family-friendly policies including flexible working, home working, and a local government pension scheme, plus many other staff benefits. You will join a motivated, driven and supportive team that strives for excellence and values its members. You will also be part of a successful and high-achieving development team that is making a real difference to the lives of residents in the borough. For more information about the wide variety of benefits you can take advantage of please visit our Staff Benefits page.
