The role

The Thames Tideway Tunnel was granted consent by the Government in September 2014 in order to upgrade London’s sewerage system. The tunnel, measuring a total of 25km will run from Action in west London to Abbey Mills in north east London. It is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever to take place in London.

There are several locations in Southwark which will be subject to tunnel construction works including Chambers Wharf in Bermondsey which will be one of the main tunnel drives sites involving 24 hour construction works over six years. Located on the banks of the River Thames in a densely populated residential area and with several schools in close proximity, the construction works will have significant implications for the local community in the locality of the site.

The post holder will be based in the Planning Department and will work closely with local residents, Council officers and other interested parties to ensure that the construction works progress with the least possible impacts. A particular focus will be to implement and deliver measures as set out and funded in the S106 to mitigate and off-set the impacts of the works.

The role provides a stimulating opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate with excellent communication, organisation and project management skills, working closely with the local community and other interested parties in the delivery of a major infrastructure project.
