The role
Southwark Council is a Central London borough at the centre of a dynamic world city with a huge regeneration agenda. The Planning Division, which forms part of the Chief Executive’s Department, is currently looking to recruit qualified and experienced officers to deal with a range of specialist disciplines in the busy Development Management Unit. There is the prospect of challenging but rewarding work for the successful candidates.
We are looking for a suitably qualified Archaeologist seeking a senior role in the design and conservation team and to take an active role in a wide range of development proposals that affect the archaeology of Southwark including strategic proposals, mixed-use schemes and historic buildings. In this role you will supervise projects and junior officers within a busy planning department; manage a caseload of planning applications and listed building consents; liaise with statutory bodies, developers and elected members; review a wide range of development proposals; take an active role in policy in respect of archaeology and the built heritage; and provide professional and effective advice to applicants and council officers on archaeology and the built heritage.
