The Role:
The Design, Conservation and Transport Policy Team at Southwark Council are looking for a senior design and conservation planning specialist in urban forestry who is passionate about tackling climate emergency within Southwark.
The key workstreams of this new role includes:
- Preparing planning policies and planning guidance through the review of the Local Plan, Old Kent Road Area Action Plan and Supplementary Planning Documents. We will be working at the cutting edge of how local planning policy can respond to ambitious carbon reduction targets.
- Providing specialist and technical input and advice for the Planning Division throughout the planning process, including reviewing design and conservation urban forester issues and documents submitted with planning applications to identify and negotiate ways of ensuring the delivery of accessible areas.
- Inputting into Design, Conservation and Place Making Policy as part of our pre-application planning advice service, as part of a review of planning services.
- Establishing collaborative ways to deliver the council’s Southwark Plan.
- Working with colleagues from other councils on progressing design, conservation and place making policy across London.
- Making recommendations for determining planning applications
About You:
As a design and conservation planning specialist in urban forestry, you will be part of a dedicated team of planners, graduates and apprentices who are very enthusiastic about tackling the climate emergency by updating planning policy and guidance to ensure planning and development pushes the boundaries of place making, climate emergency and movement. You will need to report to senior officers and members, and you will need to liaise with the GLA and Central Government responding to new initiatives and policy, and finding ways to implement them effectively at Southwark.
The Design, Conservation and Transport Policy Team is part of the Policy, Building Control and the Historic Environment team. This team provides specialist advice on planning applications, prepares policy and strategy to guide development and monitors change and improvements. This team is part of the Planning and Growth Division which leads on sustainable change and growth in Southwark.
Additional salary details
