The Role: 

The Southwark Pension Fund is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and is the largest pension fund in London in terms of scheme membership, with net assets of £2.1 billion.

As part of an ongoing commitment in service delivery, Pension Services is at the start of an exciting journey around future pension provision, service excellence and engagement with fund members and other stakeholders. 

Following a recent restructure, we are looking for an exceptional individual who understands the importance and financial value placed on a members pension benefits. You will be responsible for ensuring a wide range of pension transactions are carried out correctly, on time, and in accordance with the regulations. 

Key responsibilities of the Senior Pensions Officer include:

- Providing operational support, including deputising in the absence of the Pensions Administration Manager

- Monitoring and allocating casework to junior staff. Ensuring performance targets and deadlines are met.

- Day to day performance management of junior staff, identifying training and development needs and working with Pensions Trainer/Pensions Administration Manager to enable team to reach its full potential.

- Responsible for checking and authorising casework up to agreed financial limits.

- Managing Pension Services mailbox, ensuring work is allocated and delegated accordingly, and that communication / responses are of high quality.

- Providing specialist advice and support on technical pension issues.

- Dealing with complex or sensitive casework matters. Coaching and supporting less experienced team members.

- Dispute resolution and complaint management - actively seeking to resolve issues in a timely manner.

- Proactively seek out service efficiencies, identify improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

- Undertake, or be part of specific project related work.

- Managing ‘Annual Allowance’ Scheme Pays election process, ensuring tax liabilities are paid across to HMRC.

About you:

As an integral part of Pension Services, you will be able to liaise with staff and colleagues at all levels of the council, taking a senior role within administration team, providing excellent customer service to end users and other stakeholders.

We’re looking for someone with drive, determination, enthusiasm, and the skills and abilities to make the Pension Services team performs at the highest level.
