The Role: 

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership and legal skills working in our large, Lexcel accredited Legal Team which plays a crucial role supporting the council’s objectives by providing the full range and variety of expert services across all areas of the Council’s work.

The work encompasses the full range of contentious and non-contentious law services including: advising on the law; responding to threats of judicial review; issuing or responding to applications in the Court of Protection; displacement applications in the County Court; drafting pleadings, statements and other legal documents, that include  a range of issues covering social care functions and related legal work.  You will be required to advise officers on service development, ensuring that changes in how services are delivered are undertaken lawfully, including compliance with the public sector equality duty. 

About you:

You will be leading and managing a team of lawyers who provide advice and litigation services to departments supporting vulnerable adults and children. You will also work with lawyers in other legal teams on cross cutting issues. You will have conduct of a varied caseload with the focus on more complex matters.

You will also need to keep up to date with changing legislation and anticipate the impact this will have on the work on the council, leading on how to respond to changes.

Additional salary details

This role attracts a Hard to fill benefit for grade 12 post and 7.5% market factor payment.
