The Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Anti-Fraud Team Manager in conducting thorough investigations
- Preparation of papers, attend and present cases/evidence
- Providing expert analysis and advice to support strategic decision-making
- Offering high-quality information and guidance to staff and senior officers
- Promoting fraud awareness initiatives across the council
- Contributing to corporate and departmental goals, including maintaining Investors in People accreditation, good management practices, meeting financial targets, and enhancing the professional image of the finance function
- Supervising, mentoring, coaching, and developing team members
How will you make an impact as our Senior Fraud Investigation Officer?
- You will have a passion for fraud detection and prevention
- Previous experience in Fraud Detection, blended with extensive knowledge of Local Government or Public Sector is highly desired.
- Ideally you will hold or be working towards a ACFS, GCFP, or APCIP certificate.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills
- Excellent communication and advisory abilities
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity and professionalism
- Leadership skills to guide and develop team members
- Proficiency in reporting, analysis, and decision-making skills.
- A natural problem-solver who can make critical recommendations at pace, whilst embedding financial principles and controls within a highly visible role.
- A DBS check is required for the successful post holder
- This role offers flexible home working blended with travel into our London Bridge HQ.

Southwark Council is looking for a dedicated and dynamic Senior Investigation Officer to join our Anti-Fraud Team! The Corporate Anti-Fraud Team provide a strategic lead on anti-fraud within the Council, managing the overall provision and returns for the National Fraud Initiative. As a Senior Investigation Officer, you'll play a crucial role in detecting, preventing, and investigating fraud to protect the council's assets and recover criminal assets under Proceeds of Crime legislation. You'll lead a portfolio of complex counter-fraud work, both reactive and proactive, helping to reduce fraud across the council.
