The Role

We are looking for our new Senior Finance Manager (Corporate) to sit within the Corporate Finance Team. In this role you will lead a small team of finance staff, providing professional financial advice on technical accounting and the financial control side of the council’s finance agenda.

Reporting to the Departmental Finance Manager, you’ll support the Strategic Director of Finance and Governance to develop and implement strategies that ensure our corporate finance functions are fit for purpose, support the council’s fairer future priorities and are continually improving. You will work closely with the council’s finance teams and other officers, supporting and co-ordinating the financial reporting cycle i.e. budget setting, budget monitoring and closure of accounts. Alongside this, you will build effective and productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels across the council including Members and senior officers, as well as externally.

What we are looking for in our Senior Finance Manager:
To be considered for this role you will be CIPFA qualified (or equivalent) with strong inter-personal skills and a keen eye for operational and financial efficiencies and engaging relevant officers with financial governance.

The successful candidate will have an expert knowledge of local government finance and an advanced technical skillset. You’ll have proven team management experience, the ability to identify and deliver training and development opportunities and to empower your team to set aspirational objectives.

Whilst a strong technical knowledge of relevant CIPFA Codes of Practice, capital accounting and VAT will be a distinct advantage, what’s more important is your ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex financial information
simply and effectively.

- This role attracts a JNC benefit of £2724 PA / Pro-rata dependent on start date.
