The Role:
The Senior Building Safety Manager position is to take responsibility for and cooperate with the Principal Responsible Person and Responsible Person/s in relation to whole building safety by coordinating and assuring all building-related activities to ensure compliance with the requirements for the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and associated statutory and internal building safety management system requirements across the Council’s housing stock. The post-holder will actively engage with residents on matters affecting their general well-being, health, safety and security, and the environment within and around the building by empowering them on their own and their neighbour’s building safety.
The Senior Building Safety Manager will also coordinate access to quality information and facilitate appropriate opportunities to support stakeholder training needs and assist in the development and maintenance of the Building Safety Case and Safety Case Reports and other associated documentation pertaining to allocated high-rise buildings so they both obtain and retain their Building Assurance Certificates.
About You:
- We are a new team, this role requires a pro-active, motivated person with a desire to build, lead, manage and motivate teams both directly and indirectly.
- The post-holder will have the ability to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels with the interpersonal and negotiation skills necessary to gain and sustain the confidence of residents.
- Ability and experience of managing building safety risks, putting measures in place to prevent major incidents in our buildings and accountability to provide a ‘Safety Case Report’ to demonstrate how building safety are being identified, mitigated and managed.
- Experience in the effective use and collation of accurate data, with an understanding of data breaches and associated implications, as well as preventing or managing a breach.
- Ability to build and maintain effective and productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholder.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing both long and short term work-streams and priorities.
-Sound knowledge of all changes in building regulations, policies, best practice, research new building products and ensure that Southwark is compliant with government legislation, good practice, housing services and their combined role in building safety.
- The ability to drive own performance, improvements and consistently work towards achieving goals and high standards with minimum supervision and with strong planning and prioritising.
- There is a requirement to work flexibly in response to the demands of the job, which may require dealing with emergency situations and working beyond normal office hours on occasions.
