The role
Southwark Council currently has vacancies for School Crossing Patrol Officers at multiple locations throughout the borough. The role involves helping children and vulnerable people to cross the road around schools during drop off and pick up times in all weather conditions, at authorised crossing locations working to strict Southwark Council’s and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents guidelines.
You will need to work one(1) hour in the morning and one (1) hour in the afternoon during school term time (10 hours per week). Job share will be considered where practical.
This role requires you to communicate well with all road users, demonstrating correct and safe behaviour when operating at the crossing.
About You:
- Happy working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to work with both adults and children
- Good understanding of road safety
- Good understanding of Safeguarding vulnerable people/children.
- Holiday leave must be taken outside of term-time dates
- You will be working outdoors in all weathers, standing for the duration of your shift, and will need to carry the crossing sign at intervals.
- Full training and a uniform is provided.
- The post holder will be expected to do some class room training during school holidays but would be notified in good time of this.
- Permanent contract, working term time only.
- Enhanced DBS check is required.

Additional salary details
Salary:
£6,979.00 per annum, for 10 hours per week over 45.24 weeks over 12 equal monthly payments.
- Monday to Friday 08:00 to 09:00 and 15:00 to 16:00 during school term. Total of 10 hours a week.- term time only
- The salary displayed is pro-rata, plus 53.8 hours holiday pay.
- This means no worries about not being paid during the school holidays!
