The Role:

An exciting opportunity to work with both Adults and Children with learning disabilities as part of a highly skilled, friendly and professional team in Southwark.

We are looking for people with experience in working with either adults or children with learning disabilities and who are committed to supporting people in a person centred way to join our friendly team as a Residential Support Worker in Southwark.

Respite is a fun and busy working environment. As we support about 150 different people all with different needs. So the people you support are regularly changing bringing new opportunities to support people to have fun and enjoyable short breaks.

Orient Street Respite Service provides a high quality, safe, caring and person centred respite service to children and adults with learning disabilities.

As a Residential Support Worker you will be instrumental in the delivery of this high quality safe, caring and bespoke service. You will be required to develop strong relationships with each individual and their families, supporting the individuals to have an enjoyable stay and to maximise their independence and engage in ordinary living and community life. Through their regular respite you will be supporting people to continue to live in their family home.

You will be required to understanding each person’s needs and preferences, and be able to implement each person’s support plan, ensuring each person receives a bespoke person centred service.

Your duties will include supporting people with all aspects of their life during their stay including recreational activities, everyday living tasks, personal care, skill development etc. You will also be the identified key worker for a number of people.

You will be required to liaise with families building strong trusting relationships and you will be required to maintain records and be able to develop and update plans and risk assessments as needed.

About You:

Successful candidates will need to have an understanding of the needs of carers and the importance or respite care, knowledge of the wider social care sector, key regulations and statutory organisations such as Ofsted and CQC.

This is an opportunity to provide a vital role in supporting carers to provide care to children and adults with learning disabilities while developing a career in care with access training and development opportunities.  

Additional salary details

Please note the post holder will be expected to work shifts as part of a 7 day rota. Shifts are typically 07:00 – 15:00 and 14:00 – 22:00.
