The Role: 

We are recruiting x3 Full Time Fixed Term Public Health Programme Assistants. 

As part of our commitment to develop the public health workforce, Southwark Public Health Division is offering entry-level training opportunities as part of its Public Health Foundation Programme. The programme is aimed at new graduates with limited work experience who are considering a postgraduate degree or career in public health. We will be recruiting two Public Health Programme Assistants to join our multidisciplinary and ambitious team of 30 experts.

The post is full-time role. The placement has a fixed term of five days a week (36 hours) for six months. Flexible working is supported.

The Foundation Programme allows Public Health Programme Assistants to explore a career in public health, develop skills relevant to public health practice and gain experience working in a local government setting. The positions will be closely supported by a Public Health Policy Officer or Intelligence Analyst.

About You: 

You will have achieved, or be working towards, a degree in public health or a related discipline, or equivalent experience*. You will be a skilled communicator with good analytical skills, and have the ability to work cooperatively.

* Description of equivalent experience: Equivalent experience would include work experience in a field related to public health which requires report writing and presentation, a good standard of numeracy skills and the ability to critically appraise evidence from a range of sources

Recruitment timetable

The interview will take place via video conference.

Roles are full time (36 hours pw) and will run from October 2023 until March 2024. 

The expectation is that successful candidates will work from Southwark Council offices. However, successful candidates will be afforded the opportunity to request a flexible working pattern, including the ability to work from home for up to 50% of working time.

 

Flexible working arrangements must be approved by the line manager in advance, to ensure arrangements do not have negative impacts on the service, individual or wider team. Managers will also ensure that any requested work pattern supports the new starter being present for the purposes of training and integration into the division and organisation.
