The Role:
Southwark Council’s Public Health Division is advertising for a fixed term, part time policy officer for the period up to end of March 2023.
The role will involve working across the Public Health Division, wider council, NHS, and community partners in the provision and improvement of public health services.
You must have excellent communication, partnership, analytical and report writing skills. You will be highly organised and be comfortable working within a fast paced and reactive environment, where the focus is on the delivery and management of multiple programmes and projects to high standards within tight timescales. A strong commitment to addressing the wider determinants of health and to tackle health inequalities is expected.
Key areas of work for the Policy Officer role to progress include:
- Supporting implementation of a refreshed Food Security Action Plan, and improving
the way we engage and co-produce with our partners and communities
- Developing a longer-term Sustainable Food strategy
- Establishing Southwark as a Sustainable Food Place
- Overseeing relevant budgets and commissioning processes
- Reviewing monitoring and evaluation capacity and research gaps
In addition to their specific portfolio they may also be required to support Southwark’s Pandemic Response to work with us in tackling COVID-19 and supporting our plans for recovery and renewal.
About You:
The post holder will be accountable to the Public Health Head of Programmes for Healthy Place within the Health Improvement and Place team. The portfolio will require working closely with colleagues in Community Southwark, the Southwark Food Action Alliance, and colleagues in the Council’s Climate Change team.
To be successful in this role you need to have an in-depth understanding of: the wider
determinants of health; the social, economic and political context surrounding sustainable food agenda; and a strong commitment to tackling health inequalities.
The post holders will be accountable to the Public Health Head of Programmes for Healthy Place.
