These are exciting times for the London Borough of Southwark with many developments taking place along the River Thames, at the Council estates at Elephant and Castle, at the former Surrey Docks at Canada Water, and through to Peckham and Camberwell. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Property Lawyer to join our team on a part time basis, 3 days per week (21.6 hours) and assist the Senior Property Lawyers in delivering the highest quality legal services in the Southwark Property team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on Local Government Law and the implications of Human Rights and Equalities legislation.
- Provide expert legal advice on property and regeneration law matters
- Manage your own caseload effectively and efficiently.
- Debate and resolve legal points impartially.
- Conduct title due diligence reports for the Council's affordable housing direct delivery program.
- Handle buybacks of leasehold properties in redeveloped housing estates.
- Manage lease renewals, assignments, and surrenders within the Council's property portfolio.
- Facilitate disposals of council land, including auction sales.
- Assist senior lawyers with significant compulsory purchase orders.
How will you make an impact as our Property Lawyer?
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with a current practising certificate or holds Fellow of the institute of Legal Executives (FILEX).
- Practical experience in property law, preferably within a local government context.
- Deep knowledge of property and regeneration law, local government law, and related human rights and equalities legislation.
- Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload independently.
- Excellent legal research, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- The capability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintaining high standards of attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
- Able to cultivate a solution orientated mind-set and approach to their work.
- This role offers flexible home working blended with travel into our London Bridge HQ.
