The role

These are exciting times for the London Borough of Southwark with many developments taking place along the River Thames, at the Council estates at Elephant and Castle, at the former Surrey Docks at Canada Water and through to Peckham and Camberwell. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Property Lawyer to join our team and assist the Senior Property Lawyers in the delivery of the highest quality legal services in the Southwark Property team.

You will have knowledge of law in relation to Property and Regeneration and an understanding of Local Government Law and the impact of Human Rights and Equalities legislation. You will have experience of managing your own caseload and the ability to debate legal points in an impartial way.

You will be involved in a range of property work such as regular title due diligence reports relating to the Council's direct delivery programme for affordable housing, buybacks of leasehold properties in housing estates which are being redeveloped; working on the steady flow of portfolio work including lease renewals, assignments and surrenders; disposals of council land often in auction sales; and the possibility of assisting the senior lawyers on a number of significant compulsory purchase orders.

This is a full-time permanent role. You will either have or be entitled to obtain a solicitors’ practising certificate (or equivalent) and have several years of property law experience.

The role is based at the Council’s offices at Tooley Street. Please apply online expressing your interest and showing how you are able to meet the criteria set out in the job specification.
