About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.

The Role:

The Programmes and Change team is a central team of project managers providing project management expertise across the Environment, Neighbourhoods and Growth department. They work on the department’s key priority programmes, such as the departmental change programme and the department’s response to Southwark Stands Together, ensuring they deliver positive outcomes for residents and staff in a timely manner, to budget and to a high standard. The team strives to become a centre of excellence for delivering programmes and projects and setting the standard in how programmes and projects will be managed across the department and beyond.

The Programmes and Change team is a newly established team following a restructure that has centralised existing project capacity into one unit. Therefore there have been no previous apprentice opportunities but the team are excited about the prospect of welcoming someone to the team and department.

For the successful candidate, gaining experience working in a Programme Management Office has many benefits: project variety, meeting and working with new people at different levels, always a new technique, tool, model and/or methodology to learn and use, job satisfaction, project lifecycle exposure, and strong strategic alignment (we know where we fit in).

Many of the skills required to be a successful project professional are transferrable, not just to other sectors, but to peoples’ personal lives too. These skills include: stakeholder engagement and management, collaboration and teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, project management, time management, organisational management, problem solving, critical thinking, procurement, and negotiation.

The apprenticeship pathway you will be completing will be Associate Project Manager Level 4
