Make a Difference as a Project Manager at Southwark Council

About the Role

As a Project Manager, you will play a critical role in Regulatory Services, overseeing multiple projects that deliver key organisational priorities and drive meaningful change. From environmental health and licensing to anti-enviro-crime initiatives and violence prevention, your work will directly contribute to making Southwark a safer, cleaner, and more equitable borough for all.

In this position, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of project delivery, from initiation to evaluation. Working closely with senior leaders, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams, you will ensure that all projects are delivered within scope, on time, and to a high standard. You will also help set the standard for project management practices across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and deliver multiple projects from initiation to completion, ensuring smooth transitions into “business-as-usual” operations.
  • Collaborate with directors, heads of service, and business managers to define project scope, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Translate organisational goals into tangible project outcomes, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Use project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile) to plan and monitor progress, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Develop robust business cases and benefits plans in collaboration with the Business Manager for Programme and Performance.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced and highly motivated Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering projects in complex environments. You’ll bring strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certified in Agile, PRINCE2, Scrum Master, or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Strong understanding of project management tools and methodologies, including PRINCE2, P3O, and APM.
  • Experience managing full project life cycles, including change management and organisational redesign.
  • Exceptional ability to simplify complex ideas and communicate them clearly to varied audiences.
  • Experience in producing high-quality project documentation, reports, and financial management.
