The role

Southwark Council’s Environment, Neighbourhoods and Growth department is recruiting a Project Manager to the Programmes and Change team.

The Programmes and Change team is a Programme Management Office (PMO), consisting of a central team of project professionals, working flexibly across the department to support meaningful change and realise departmental and corporate priorities.

The team works on the department’s key priority programmes including Southwark Stands Together, the Service Review Framework, Streets For People, and Violence Against Women and Girls..

This role will be responsible for leading a range of projects in the department across all our business areas including environmental services, culture, leisure, parks, climate change, community safety and community engagement. You will have a varied portfolio of work, delivering with teams who need expert project management support to improve their services.

This is an excellent opportunity to:

  • Design or redesign services, prototyping and iterating as you go, that help Southwark residents live a good life as part of a strong community
  • Use design thinking methodology and apply a design thinking mindset to all corners of your work

  • Enhance our Service Review Framework and take it to the next level

This role will also have the opportunity to lead a range of projects in the department across all our services, including but not limited to, environmental services, culture, leisure, parks, parking, highways, climate change, and community safety.

About you

We are looking for someone who uses a fusion of service design and project management to deliver tangible outcomes and benefits for our residents and communities. You will be passionate about:

  • service designing the resident and community experience of Environment, Neighbourhoods and Growth services
  • project management and have the skills and experience to utilise a toolbox of project management techniques

The role will suit you if you:

  • are or have been a Service Designer who wants to create a positive change for our residents and communities
  • are keen to accelerate organisational culture change by adopting design and innovation mindsets and practices
  • are or have been a Project Manager who has a can-do attitude to realise project benefits
  • can work in a fast-paced PMO environment
  • are a natural collaborator and excellent communicator, and work well with a range of stakeholders at all levels to deliver change
  • have the ability to problem solve, as well as think critically and innovatively
