The Role

Southwark Council is committed to supporting its communities and safeguarding its residents from harm. The borough’s successful Prevent partnership programme is seeking an exceptional candidate to support its work responding to the risks from radicalisation and violent-extremism in relation to the education sector.

This high-profile role will lead on our work across schools, colleges, universities and other settings in the borough – helping to raise awareness of the issues, embed effective Prevent practice, and build resilience amongst young people and those vulnerable to radicalisation.

The successful applicant should have either experience in education, or a strong knowledge of the sector, as well as exceptional communication and presentation skills. The ability to develop and deliver high-quality training and resources, both in-person and online, will be essential. A good knowledge of Prevent policy and practice, and how it relates to education settings, is crucial, as well as the willingness to develop knowledge and expertise within the role.

This role is open to both experienced professionals and/or high-achieving university leavers, and secondments from the education sector would be considered.

Due to the nature of the work, the successful applicant will be required to work flexibly at times, including occasional attendance at training and events outside of normal working hours.

The successful applicant will also need to be willing to undertake a DBS check and enhanced security checks before commencing the role, in addition to relevant employment checks.

In return, Southwark Council offers a generous range of benefits including flexible working opportunities, season ticket or cycle-to-work loans, and access to the local-authority pension scheme. Any queries about this role should be sent to: prevent@southwark.gov.uk
