Southwark Council is recruiting a political assistant for the majority Labour group, to support the Council Leader, Cabinet team and the 48 strong group of Labour Councillors delivering its ‘Fairer Future For All’ agenda to the community in one of the most diverse, vibrant parts of central London.

The role is key to supporting the Labour Group, including undertaking research and project work as well as coordination and supporting the work of the group within the council. In addition you will be the first point of contact for press enquiries on the work of the group and will be working closely with senior staff and councillors.

The full-time role will involve significant personal commitment, including some evening and weekend working.

You will understand the importance of linking the work of politicians to real outcomes for the community, and will bring good organisational and prioritisation skills to provide a high level of service to the group.

The opportunity is fixed-term to the May 2022 election: it will be considered for renewal subject to the outcome of the election.

 

 

Additional salary details

 

This post is subject to the limitations set by the Local Government (Assistants to Political Groups) (Remuneration) Order 2006 including a salary cap of £34,986
