About Pension Services
The Southwark Pension Fund is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and is the largest pension fund in London in terms of scheme membership, with net assets of £1.64 billion.
As part of an ongoing commitment in service delivery, Pension Services is at the start of an exciting journey around future pension provision, service excellence and engagement with fund members and other stakeholders.
Following a recent restructure, we are looking for an exceptional individual who understands the importance and financial value placed on a members pension benefits.
The Role
Key responsibilities of the Pensions Payroll Officer include:
1. Undertake processing of payroll transactions for pensioner payroll including the collation and validation of documentation from pensioners and managers, data input to the payroll system, checking output, raising concerns where matters fall outside agreed processes.
2. Respond to a wide range of payroll related issues raised by managers, pensioners, their representative’s external third parties etc. Communication may be by e-mail, letter, phone, face to face. Matters may relate to terms and conditions, application of regulation (tax, Nl etc.), other statutory and agreed deductions, e.g. court orders, pension matters, etc.
3. Implement, and advise on, particular or technically different tasks.
4. Ensure customers receive accurate payments including those to overseas bank accounts, managing recalls and debt recovery as appropriate.
5. Provide information required by internal and external auditors and to implement recommendations of audit reports. To ensure that a clear audit trail of all payroll transactions is maintained (including file management) to meet audit requirements and best practice.
6. Complete official requests for information from, senior managers, pensioners, government departments, banks, building societies and trade unions.
7. Assist senior Payroll staff in undertaking research, analysis and fact finding. Support the implementation of changes in payroll policy or processes.
8. Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with team colleagues, other HR services, Senior Managers, other departments, the Trade Unions and representatives from a range of external bodies.
9. Responsible for the collection, collation and analysis of a range of payroll data, including the production of reports and statistical data for internal and external use.
10. Participate in end of year processes.
11. Experience in UPM system
