The Role:
To proactively identify and implement the Councils best practice and Government legislation. Bringing any concerns to the attention of the Pensions Management Team and ensure that Managers and staff are advised on pension issues..
To provide specialist advice and assistance to customers on pension services and issues, including entitlements, benefits, pensionable pay, and regulations.
To determine pension entitlement and calculate various and complex benefits in accordance with legislation and the pension schemes operated by the Council.
This may include estimates of preserved benefits, retirement and redundancy packages, gratuity and lump sum payments, refund of contributions, and other elements arising from a change in personal circumstances.
To ensure the effective administration of the pension scheme, devising and maintaining manual and computerised UPM pension records and information systems. To update member records, input details on SAP and other systems, check documentation, and issue statutory notices.
Respond to specific enquiries in writing and by phone. This may be of a more complex and / or sensitive nature, and require investigation of personal situations and interpretation of regulations.
To liaise with other local authorities, government departments and external Organisations on pensions matters such as transferred service, inter-fund adjustments, and pay contributions
To deliver a comprehensive and pro-active pension's service in co-operation with work colleagues. To provide a mentoring role to other team members in line with their personal development, checking work of less experienced colleagues, ensuring a consistent approach and effective communication systems within the section.
To check and authorise all casework within the section except retirement benefits, partner benefits, transfer values (including interfund) and death grants up to a financial limit of £1000.
