The role
Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and strong reputation. We are wholly committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for all’ promises which ensures our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. Only the best is good enough for our customers.
Our Pensions Service is a key part of our Finance and Governance Department. We strive to provide the best pensions administration service and are committed to working with others to make a positive difference - ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across the service.
We’re continually reviewing our service to optimise members’ experience. As the corporate pensions lead officer, you will play a pivotal role in helping us to improve processes and communication, including through utilising opportunities for digital solutions and increased use of online facilities. You will also drive an increase in the quality of data held, and develop and implement service KPIs.
You will provide leadership to a team of specialist staff, who will be looking to you for clear direction and support. This will include reviewing the team structure with a view to creating additional capacity in the team so it is better positioned to drive improvements in service standards and reduce any backlogs.
You will also act as the corporate expert on pensions issues at a range of forums, including with schools and other employers.
About you
Whilst we are looking for a pensions professional with knowledge of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), or a similar scheme able to upskill in the specifics of the LGPS scheme, we equally want someone who can provide effective leadership – motivating and developing others to achieve excellent performance. We are also looking for someone with the mindset to deliver ongoing service improvements, through problem solving and innovation.
Furthermore, you will be adept in relationship building and with the confidence to lead on internal and external communications for all activities in respect of pensions matters.
About us
Southwark is a place with a rich and proud history, a strong sense of community and a great ability to transform and renew. It is a vibrant and enticing borough to live, work and visit. As a council we are successful, passionate and forward thinking.
In your role, we want you to feel supported, challenged and rewarded. You will benefit from our family friendly policies including flexible working, home working, basic annual leave entitlement of 33 days, mobile phone provision, career break opportunities and career average pension scheme, plus many other staff benefits.
