The Internship Programme at Southwark
Now more than ever, the young people of Southwark need support to help them access employment that reflects their ambitions and hard work. Our paid internships are aimed at creating positive futures for young residents aged 16-24, who need help to get on the career ladder.
We’ve committed to paying our Interns the Living Wage as a minimum, currently set at £10.75 per hour.
Internships can last anywhere between 6 -12 weeks and are all across our council departments.

About the Opportunity at Southwark
Join as an intern in our Private Rented Sector Team. As a nationally recognised early adopter of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017, our department advise and assist residents from early homeless prevention work through to resettlement and on-going housing related support.
This Internship will last for 12 weeks and we have 1 placement available - at the moment we expect this to begin in late September/October 2020.
This is a well-rounded opportunity to gain essential skills, whilst helping people in the community and contributing to making a difference to the future of Southwark’s borough.
About You
Here are some key areas we look for in our interns:
- An understanding of Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety and Confidentiality.
- An understanding of what is required around timekeeping, attendance and conduct in the workplace.
- Working efficiently and effectively with customers and or peers.
- Working flexibly as part of a team.
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload.
For this role, you will need to have a genuine desire to help in homeless prevention and helping those in housing need.
