The Intern Placement

The Internship Programme at Southwark

Now more than ever, the young people of Southwark need support to help them access employment that reflects their ambitions and hard work.

Our paid internships are aimed at creating positive futures for young residents aged 16-24, who need help to get on the career ladder.

We’ve committed to paying our interns the Living Wage as a minimum, currently set at £10.75 per hour.

Internships can last anywhere between 6 -12 weeks and are all across our council departments.

About the Opportunity at Southwark

Southwark's IT & Digital Team provide a range of services to the organisation including:

- Providing new technology for the Council, including for staff and for the buildings.
- Make Southwark Council more efficient through digital technology.
- Digitally improving services, transforming them, getting more people online.

This is a well rounded opportunity to gain essential project support skills in how IT can help us provide better services for our residents and help our community.

You'll be involved in projects such as:
- Digital Signage
- Audio/Video conferencing
- Technology road map
- The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government funding project

This paid Internship will last for 12 weeks and we have 2 placements available - at the moment we expect this to begin in late September/October 2020.

About You

Here are some key areas we look for in our interns:

- An understanding of Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety and Confidentiality.
- An understanding of what is required around timekeeping, attendance and conduct in the workplace.
- Working efficiently and effectively with customers and or peers.
- Working flexibly as part of a team.
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload.

You don't need to be technical to succeed in this placement but you should have a willingness and an ability to learn about IT and digital projects and how it operates in a Local Government setting to help our staff and residents.
