The Internship Programme at Southwark
Now more than ever, the young people of Southwark need support to help them access employment that reflects their ambitions and hard work.
Our paid internships are aimed at creating positive futures for young residents aged 16-24, who need help to get on the career ladder.
We’ve committed to paying our interns the Living Wage as a minimum.
Internships can last anywhere between 6 -12 weeks and are all across our council departments.

About the Opportunity at Southwark
Join us as an intern in our HR Team. The team supports any internal and external HR queries from any staff member in the Council and also works on various HR related projects.
You will be acting in a vital HR Assistant / project role for the HR team. This is a well rounded opportunity to gain experience in our projects related to our ongoing Covid-19 response - such as support and advice for staff and managers as well as exposure to our well being and workforce equality plans.
This internship lasts for 12 weeks and we have 1 placement available. At the moment we expect this to begin in late September/October 2020.
About You
Here are some key areas we look for in our interns:
- An understanding of Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety and Confidentiality.
- An understanding of what is required around timekeeping, attendance and conduct in the workplace.
- Working efficiently and effectively with customers and or peers.
- Working flexibly as part of a team.
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload.
