The Role:
The Local Support Team is responsible for income maximisation and administration of both the Emergency Support Scheme and the Hardship Fund. In the 7 years since becoming operational in 2015, the Local Support team have assisted Southwark residents secure over £33m in additional income, have provided them with essential items such as food, fuel and white goods and have made monetary awards to help those customers experiencing severe financial hardship.
We have developed essential and productive relationships and partnerships with our customers, other Council departments and external stakeholders. This has become ever more crucial with the continuing impact of welfare reform being experienced by residents of the borough. Excellent customer service skills, a flexible approach and an in depth knowledge of welfare benefits and welfare reform will therefore, be an essential requirement in this challenging but rewarding role.
You will work with a team of officers providing support, advice and guidance to vulnerable customers who are experiencing an emergency, crisis or disaster or who are suffering financial hardship.
About You:
As a Local Support Officer you will be key in ensuring that high quality advice and guidance is provided to residents, you’ll have experience of dealing directly with and advising customers and a commitment to putting customers first.

We have two exciting opportunities to join the Local Support Team on a fixed term basis.
