The role
We have an urgent requirement for a Local Government Support Team Manager to support the Covid-19 vaccination deployment programme.
Reporting to the National Programme’s Senior Leadership Team you will be responsible for working with local authorities and the NHS in the delivery of COVID-19 vaccination programme.
You’ll need to be adept at engaging with key local, regional, and national stakeholders quickly on a day-to-day basis and respond effectively to any operational issues that arise.
This role requires the successful candidates to hit the ground running therefore demonstrable knowledge and experience of working within complex local and regional systems is key, as well as the ability to effectively communicate and engage with others.
The role works alongside the National Adviser for Local Government supporting the work undertaken within the team.
Their role’s main objectives are: -
- Provide the secretariat for the Local Government Vaccine Sub-Group – the programme’s main formal engagement forum with regional lead local authority chief executives.
- Work with the National Vaccination Programme Management Office to ensure key milestones or activities where local authority input would be most valuable are identified in the programme plan and support the delivery of these by engaging appropriate stakeholders as appropriate.
- Take on specific projects and activity as requested by the Programme.
- Provide timely and effective advice and intelligence on early indications about emerging issues and risks to support local authorities
- Share notable practice with regional and national partners
- Represent the programme in a number of engagement forums (LG Sector Leads, Engage & Unblock, Comms group), providing programme updates, responding to queries and taking feedback
- Support the drafting of communications tailored for local government audiences using knowledge of the sector and ensuring that local authority concerns are addressed in the communications.
The secondees will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong management skills with the ability to work across a large range of internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of delivery through partnership working
- Extensive understanding of local government, public health or community engagement
- Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to deliver complex messages to a variety of audiences

Fixed Term Contract to 31st March 2022
Band 7 £40,057 - £45,839 (dependent upon experience)
