The role

About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.

The Role:

A modern library is about more than lending books. It’s a hub for the community, giving everyone access to greater information and understanding. For those of us working in Southwark’s libraries, it’s about providing a service that’s as vibrant, interesting and diverse as Southwark itself.

As a Library Officer you are the public face of our library service. You will be there to ensure we deliver a high level of customer care, while playing a key role in providing efficient and effective services.

Flexibility is key as you will be on hand to respond to a variety of customer needs, from answering enquiries and providing information accurately or signposting to other services, to helping organise and run all sorts of events and promotional activities.

You will also help ensure that our spaces are welcoming and attractive places to be by keeping them in good order, shelving and tidying resources, creating displays, and reporting faults as they arise.

About You:

Flexible, adaptable and organised, you will not be afraid of taking charge of the building, staff and premises when required. You will have the strong customer focus that comes from working in a public-facing role coupled with excellent communication skills.

You must be enthusiastic about working with children, and be confident about delivering baby and toddler craft sessions or reading stories to groups.

You should have excellent digital skills to support customers with a range of IT needs, including delivering One-to-One IT sessions.

You will enjoy working as part of a team, able to work alongside colleagues and volunteers providing excellent customer service to the whole range of visitors to the library.

If this is you, we would like to hear from you.

Additional Information:
