Can you help Southwark Council shape our leisure service that supports all its residents and visitors to lead healthy lives?

In June 2023, Leisure Services transferred from a private operator to full council management. This is a unique opportunity to be part of building a new future for leisure services in Southwark.

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Leisure Finance and Banking Officer who will be support for the delivery of the finance and banking function across eight Leisure centres within Southwark. The role will contribute to the operation and delivery of the highest possible standards of service and innovation at the Council’s leisure facilities and increase access to sport and active recreation, creating more opportunities for Southwark residents to enhance their quality of life and health.

About the role:

The post is part of the Leisure Finance and Administration team, providing day-to-day financial & administrative support to the Leisure service team and other stakeholders. The post holder will assist the Leisure Finance and Banking Manager with preparing the monthly direct debt collection run and reconciliation of the Leisure bank account. The post holder will prepare financial reports and work collaboratively with Leisure Centre Managers to implement changes in working practices to support business needs and to bring performance improvement, the post holder will support the Finance team with the hire bookings at the Leisure centres

The Leisure Division sits within the Department of Environment, Sustainability and Leisure, which is responsible for the day-to-day management of parks and open spaces, trees, sports and leisure, cemeteries, youth and play, highways, roads, parking, refuse collection, street cleansing, culture and libraries. It also looks after public health, trading standards and consumer safety.

About You:

  • Knowledge of Leisure service business process and financial administration
  • Experience of bookkeeping, invoicing, and bank reconciliation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders

Additional Information:

  • Job type – Permanent (Full Time)
  • Will be required to work occasional weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the service.
  • Basic DBS check required.
  • Will be required to travel within the borough to the Council’s leisure facility locations.
  • Comply with and promote the Council’s Equal opportunities policy

This post requires a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) DBS check at Basic level.
