The role

About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.

The Role:

In this newly created role, you’ll support senior leaders to map roles and skills, and identify the necessary training and development needed to grow a strong department. Then, you’ll design and deliver learning programmes to realise our vision. From supporting with the TUPE transfers of 380 staff, to working on the procurement of a new learning management system, everything you do will support high-level decision making, service planning and the delivery of our Council-wide improvement strategies. All with the goal of achieving client-responsive, cost-effective, and people-centred solutions for our business challenges.

Put simply, this role is all about ensuring that this new department is established in a way that enables it to thrive in the future. And that all begins with investment in our people. This behind-the-scenes role is a great opportunity to make a truly meaningful mark on Southwark Council’s work, and give our Leisure and Exercise professionals the best start possible.

Bringing with you a proven knowledge of Learning and Development, and experience of delivering bespoke learning programmes, ideally in a large and complex organisation, you have the expertise needed to take on the challenge of establishing this brand-new division. With an innovative spirit, you’re energised by creative problem solving, and the challenge of managing projects and resources to deliver ambitious outcomes. And you’re passionate about enabling everyone at Southwark to do their best work, someone who will actively promote equality and fairness in our training practices, and always take an integrated and consistent approach to learning and development access.

And when you join us, you’ll find a workplace that invests in and supports you. You’ll enjoy benefits like flexible working (including compressed hours, flexitime and home working), a choice of great pension schemes, a cycle to work scheme, season ticket loans and more. We’ll also help you reach your full potential with a bespoke training and development package tailored to your interests, and support you to grow a career with us that you can truly be proud of.
