The role
The Role:
We are recruiting for an experienced qualified Criminal/Regulatory Lawyer for the In-house Litigation Team (Communities), Legal Services, Governance & Assurance.
You will work at a pace, under minimal supervision, with a varied and often complex caseload of all types of local authority prosecution work, including Corporate, Housing, Licensing, Planning, Markets & Street Trading, Food Safety and Environmental Protection and undertake advocacy on your own and from time to time, others case files.
You will also support and advise the Council’s Licensing Committees and provide advice to the Council’s departments on a range of Regulatory matters.

About You:
You will be a qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive with at least 3 years post qualification experience. You will have substantial knowledge and experience of criminal law.
You will have a track record of successfully conducting complex criminal prosecution litigation in a range of work arising from the council’s prosecution functions. You will also be a confident, experienced Court Advocate and have experience of licensing work
You will be experienced in confidently working with clients at all levels, and delivering legally sound, high quality, solutions based advice. You will also have some knowledge of local government related law and how it influences the work of the team.
You will be able to quickly get up to speed with new law and policy and apply it effectively when giving advice to clients and supporting your colleagues. You will have excellent time management skills, understand the political sensitivities of the work, and be aware of the impact your advice could have for both the council and the communities we serve.
You will need to be able to develop good working relationships with people both inside and outside the council and explain legal concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, tailored appropriately to your audience.

This post is classified as ‘Hard to Fill’ and attracts the following remuneration package;
• A hard to fill benefit payment of £2,327 which can be redeemed against gym membership, health insurance, season ticket purchase, bicycle purchase, additional voluntary contribution to pension, subscription and professional fees.
• 5% Market factor supplement in addition to the annual salary.
