The role
About Southwark:
Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.
The Role:
Southwark is committed to providing affordable housing to help people live, work and raise families in the borough. We are the largest social housing provider in London and one of the largest in the country with an ambitious regeneration and building program to provide additional social housing to meet, head on, the housing crisis.
Southwark takes illegal occupancy seriously and the role of Investigations Officer is key in identifying, investigating and sanctioning housing tenancy fraud where it occurs. This is an opportunity to join the Special Investigation Team, which has a proven track record as a nationally top quartile performing team.
About You:
You will have a good knowledge of social housing and the requirements placed on landlords and tenants as well as a good understanding of the factors affecting investigations and evidence gathering, particularly in relation to data protection and human rights.
You will be responsible for managing your own caseload of investigations and progressing these through to conclusion, including where necessary via the Courts. You will gather evidence using a variety of methods and techniques and draw conclusions from the evidence. As an Investigations Officer you will be expected to interview tenants, witnesses and others in relation to investigations both in the office and off site and will required to conduct home visits.
The role includes out of hours and out of borough working.
You will work closely with other teams and Council departments as well as other LA’s and external agencies to gather evidence as well as to investigate cases.
You will be methodical and accurate in your work with an ability to manage a varied and complex workload. The role requires out of office working alone or with other officers and out of hours working is necessary as required.
Training to obtain the Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist professional qualification will be considered where appropriate.
For further information or for an informal discussion about the role please contact Chris Flemyng, Investigations Manager on extension 2251.
