About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise, which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.

The Role:

Our front-line HR advisory service supports colleagues across the Council, giving expert advice and guidance. As part of the team, you’ll ensure that it provides high quality customer service, responding to diverse queries. Together, you’ll advise on HR policies and procedures via phone, video calls and email, while taking on a range of related administrative tasks. Employment changes, pay, pensions, resignations – you’ll tackle them all efficiently.

Day to day, you’ll be updating HR records, liaising with Payroll colleagues and supporting improvements in processes and self-service. That means familiarising yourself with a number of HR systems and policies, while building great working relationships. If you’ve got what it takes – including motivation, good organisation and exceptional people skills – we’ll give you the support to achieve CIPD qualification (if you don’t have this already).

About You:

We’re looking for:

- Practical experience in an HR/Payroll team

- Customer focus and the drive to achieve high standards

- The ability to create and build effective relationships with a range of managers, stakeholders and professional staff

- The ability to prioritise and respond to competing demands

- The motivation to take responsibility for your development

- Natural teamwork and collaborative skills

- Strong communication skills

- Commitment to Southwark Council’s values and our ambition to become an ever more inclusive, anti-racist organisation

Guaranteed Interview Scheme

As part of our commitment to inclusion, we offer guaranteed interviews for specific groups of people. To qualify, you'll need to meet the minimum requirements for the role, and identify with one of the below criteria:

- Are currently in care, or have previously been in care

- If you consider yourself to be disabled or if you have a long-term health condition
