The role

The Role:

This role is based in the Home search Centre at Bournemouth Road you will provide an effective, customer-friendly and efficient service to clients presenting with housing problems. You will advise clients on a full range of options to solve their housing problem, including intervention, registering on council housing list, initiatives for council tenants, private renting, mortgage advice, moving out of London and shared ownership.

You will develop effective working relationships with colleagues within Southwark, other council and statutory services, external bodies, service users, landlords as well as voluntary and other housing organisations and ensure effective referrals. You will advise clients of available tenancy support services including income maximisation, Discretionary Housing Payments, under occupation schemes, mutual exchange, debt and rent arrears advice and HB support.

About you:

Essential to this role is having considerable experience in providing housing advice services to members of the public. You will have good knowledge of relevant lettings and homelessness legislation, this will also make you an ideal candidate. You must be an excellent communicator with strong customer focus and commitment. In addition, you will have good IT and organisation skills. You will be expected to have a practical knowledge of social housing and inner city housing problems and the government's welfare reform agenda.
